Chamberlain & Dropcam – Working with Nest

As you have probably read somewhere, I am trying to automate my home and make it smarter. I have gone through and upgraded my thermostat with the Nest Learning Thermostat, I have replaced my smoke detectors with Nest Protect and more recently have decided to take it up a notch and get the Chamberlain Garage Door Opener and a Dropcam. These are both certified with the Works with Nest label which means they can automate some aspect of your home.

Home Automation – The Electricity Strikes Back

Full disclosure, this should have been posted back in 2014. Alas there is so much time to do things with a 7 month old around the house and a full time job. Some time ago I posted about setting up the Nest Learning Thermostat and the hoops jumped through to get it up and working. Well, I decided to take the plunge and instead of paying someone smarter than me in the field of electricity, wire my own Nest Protects.

Nest – The Beginnings of Home Automation in our House

It has been a recent interest of mine to start working to make our home more automated and easier to maintain. Home automation has only really come into the limelight in the past few years and it seems that it is picking up pace. I decided if I was going to start somewhere it might as well be with Nest. For those unfamiliar with Nest they make a learning thermostat and a carbon monoxide and dioxide detector. I took the plunge and decided to check out the learning thermostat first and try and install it myself (no electrical work done in my life…EVER).
